Football season is underway (sort of)

08:20 AM ET 02.13 | The 2012 football season is underway. Well, sort of. Army becomes the first FBS team to open spring practice when it hits the field Monday at West Point. And Army also is the first team to finish spring drills; the Black Knights conclude practice March 9, before a majority of the teams even start. One cool aspect of Army???s spring game: It will be played at Fort Benning, Ga., to give the troops there an up close and personal look at the team. The other three independent programs begin their spring drills in March. Only one of the four is coming off a satisfactory season; that would be BYU, which went 10-3 in its first season as an independent. Notre Dame finished a disappointing 8-5, and Army and Navy both were bowl-less.

Is there no time frame for starting spring ball? Can you start it whenever you want?

February 13, 2012  09:13 AM ET

I think they just limit the number of practices you can have..

It's "Winter Practice" then...unless it's after the Mesquite Trees bloom!

That ought to make sense to everyone! lol

Well, other than the obvious that it is usually held in the spring if it is called the Spring Practice.

Both of these are being held in what is technically still winter.

Mother Nature can fool those other plants but not the Mesquite Tree. All the other trees will bloom with the "false spring" and then they get frozen back later. Not that ugly old Mesquite!

They got "heaters" below the dirt!

A disappointing 8-5, yeah,, you got that right, coach Kelly put way too much trust and faith in Tommy Rees IMO. We play the Cougars October 20th.
Well at least we beat Navy thank God. I had just about enough of that embarrassment!
