08:23 AM ET 02.13 | Now that it seems publicly acceptable to do so, "solutions" may begin being reported in all shapes and sizes. [Arizona State President Michael Crow] not only wants a college football playoff, he's going all in with a proposal for an eight-team tournament. In a nutshell, Crow's idea is to fill the tournament with the eight highest ranked teams from among the conference champions of the current 11 BCS conferences. This would include the so called "non-automatic qualifying" conferences such as Conference USA, the Mountain West, etc. as well as the six "automatic qualifying conferences." ... He would then let the bowls pick their teams from the remaining teams, honoring conference ties and so on.

If it is CC only then you make the regular season matter.....
But then all the power conferences will start losing teams to the weaker conference....Alabama to the Sun Belt? LOL

Sounds good to me. Then seed the eight teams according to the polls. Some conferences may not like this though because they would only get one team in.

Imagine that you would actually have to be a conference champion to win a national championship.

Only if they can get equivalent money. Can't see the Sun Belt paying out the same as the SEC so only the "independently wealthy" would jump. Now schools like Notre Dame and BYU could head to a weaker conference as they don't need the $$$$. JMO.

Isn't that a ridiculous requirement....that regular season crap shouldn't matter.

I am sure there would be some requirement that if ND finishes in the top 48 in the BCS they would get a play in game against the number 8 seed.

Everyone always points to the pros and all and yet the pros don't make you win your division to be the SB champion.
This is a direct swipe at the SEC which always has 2-3 in the top 8-10 teams.
Uh Oh Heat.

If I was Slive..
I would say F no to a playoff now... Doesn't benefit the SEC..
When we tried, no one else wanted but the ACC...

That's crap. No one wants to see Backwater U from the Northern Valley High School conference play in a playoff because they are the 8th highest ranked conference champ at #19 in the BCS rankings.
They want to see the one loss USC Trojans play since they only lost to an undefeated Oregon by 3 points.
You take the top 8 teams in the BCS final poll. One additional rule can be that the top 6 Conference Champs must be included. So a maximum of two non-conference champs can be included.
I would prefer just the top 8 teams, but someone from a <hitty conference will want at least the top 6 conference champs included.

Yup. And the divisions in pro football have more parity than the conference in college football...

Wait a minute. I thought the big deal was "preserving" the regular season and not get into something like March Madness. Was I wrong?

I do too, but someone has to convince the SEC about "conference champions only"!!! Is it too early to stir the pot????? :-)
