Hill might take discount to stay in Detroit

08:04 AM ET 02.14 | If it takes two to tango, the Lions and backup quarterback Shaun Hill are likely about to dance. When it comes to [Hill], it appears the will is there on both sides. The Lions have told Hill, his representatives and others that they want him back as the primary backup to Matthew Stafford. Hill also wants to return to Detroit -- and might even take a slight discount to do so. While the team has more pressing concerns, such as reworking Calvin Johnson's deal and re-signing free agents Cliff Avril and Stephen Tulloch, it would be a surprise if Hill doesn't return to the Lions.

Uh oh... Swimsuits are back.

Bet the site runs smooooooooothly, now.

With Stafford's injury history, keeping a solid backup is a very good idea. Maybe the new Colts GM is taking notes.

When Stafford went down a couple of years back, Shaun Hill filled in admirably. He's bounced around a bit, but one has to wonder if some team that's unhappy with their starter but doesn't have an early slot in the draft might dangle money at him.

When you look at the frenzy over Kevin Kolb last year, you have to think the fight over Flynn and maybe Hill could be at least as intense. Or, maybe someone will take the Kolb thing as a lesson to be learned.

Nah. There's always someone with more money than brains.

It wouldn't take Kolb money to get Hill, but somebody might make a big preemptive offer anyway.

So, he's the next Redskins QB, then?

You said it, not me. On the other hand, no one fits that description better.

More proof that T&A is better than T&R.

Sweet. Let's talk more about a back-up holding a clip-board for a discount.

Obviously, Shaun Hill does not want to compete for a starting job in the NFL. In a league short on competent QBs?

You may be right. It's not a cushy, do-nothing job like NFL Commissioner, but for a young kid a few years out of college, clipboard-holding isn't a bad gig at all.

Plus all the free gear and you still get to tell the ladies you are an NFL QB...where do I sign? Think they can use a 34 year old former walk-on at a D2 college? LOL

At least that would give them a legit backup. It's a start.

Cuts? I doubt it. Restructure and back load some guaranteed money more likely.

February 14, 2012  06:00 PM ET

Creepy doesnt take anymore discounts I already work for nothing!

February 14, 2012  06:58 PM ET

I would cut him, anything is better than this, go with 2 Rookies @ Minimum!!! Or some old dude with Gimpy knees, they get more out of him, than Hill!!!
