Green-Ellis would fit in Kansas City

08:05 AM ET 02.15 | Comparatively, this offseason's free agency period may lack the mad-dash quality featured prior to this past season, but at least it's almost here. The Chiefs will likely be looking for a running back to pair with Jamaal Charles, who is coming back from a torn ACL he suffered in Week 2. Veteran Thomas Jones likely won't be brought back and while Jackie Battle likely could have a future in Kansas City, an upgrade may be needed. A Charles-[BenJarvus Green-Ellis] pairing would work well in Kansas City. Green-Ellis, 5-11, 215 pounds, is a reliable, solid back. ... Also, don't discount the New England connection here. Kansas City general manager Scott Pioli was in New England when it signed Green-Ellis as an undrafted free agent.

Many other people on this site have said this: running back is not a good investment in FA, especially when you can get one for cheap in the latter rounds of the draft who can do just as good a job.

I don't think he's going anywhere.

Right. Kevin Faulk will retire. Danny Woodhead is too small to go through the line and break tackles. And Ridley isn't ready for prime time yet.

BJGE has one stat that I'm sure Bill Belichick just loves - the guy just doesn't fumble. He will be a Patriot again next season.

I don't either...

My cursor keeps getting drawn upwards to that picture of Kate Upton.

I would certainly be surprised if he did.

If they want a Patriot castoff, Laurence Maroney is available. He's been available for almost a year, too. And, unlike some other NFL players, he has a concealed-carry permit.

You saw how quick Ridley rode the pine after he fumbled against Denver in a blowout. BB has no tolerance for turnovers so the lawfirm will stay put.

Is he a free agent? Pats aren't famous for getting into bidding wars.

There won't be a bidding war... If someone give the law firm a huge contract (which I doubt) then he will be gone. I expect him back in New England, but I'm sure the Pats won't overpay for him.

HOw big would it have to be? Seems to me during the superbowl there was talk that he's not making much with the Pats, at least I seem to remember that

This is surprise to me...hadnt heard any talk of Pats being unhappy with BJEG? Who would they replace him with? I know, they always seem to just pull somebody off the street and get 100yds/game from them.. ;)

Yeah, 1.8 million. And he's a free agent. He was not drafted by anyone, so he may have some loyalty to the organization.

Like a lot of Patriots, though, he may find that New England is the only place where he's really productive. Defenses don't key on the run when they play the Pats, which opens him up for bigger gains than he would have on a run-first team.

I would like to see what this kid can do actually getting 20 carries a game (not gonna happen in KC).

QUOTE(#18):

Yup. Woodhead is an excellent chance of pace guy who can make plays, but he would get killed if he had to carry the load. If Ridley is smart he is carrying a football everywhere he goes this summer and I mean everywhere.BJGE hopefully stays in NE. He is solid and dependable which is good enough in that offense.

They also have Shane Vereen, the kid from Cal, who saw very little game action in his rookie year.
