08:15 AM ET 02.15 | The Nationals are well aware that star-in-waiting Bryce Harper can rub people the wrong way. [General Manager Mike Rizzo] has counseled Harper. They speak often about Harper's responsibility to the organization. Washington's public relations staff helps Rizzo reinforce the message in conversations. ... [Says Rizzo: There's] not a malicious bone in his body. Now, there's a cocky bone in there. And there's an ego bone. And there are other bones ... but there's not a malicious bone in his body. He loves being a Washington National. He wants to be a Washington National for the length of his contract. This is the way he sees himself. He wants to go into the Hall of Fame with a Washington Nationals hat on."

A little confidence never hurts...

It will be interesting to see if he can crack the opening day lineup coming out of spring training.

February 15, 2012  08:57 AM ET

he may not be malicious...but i can see him getting beaned in the ribs if he doesn't learn how to be just a tad humble.

If this kid blows one kiss at a pitcher in the show, he'll get a really close look at the next one as it comes right at his head.

there was that time the kid stepped on the 1st baseman's leg in the juco-cws. that's about as dirty as you can get. hopefully he'll grow up before he arrives in the show

Hall of Fame? Hall of Fame? Hall of Fame? Doesn't he have to make the team and play at least one season before we mention Hall of Fame ????

February 15, 2012  10:09 AM ET

Seriously?!? Not a chance if he stays with the Nats :]

Just a wise-guy adolescent who needs more time to grow up.
And he will get hit by pitchers if his attitude on the field does not improve!

February 15, 2012  11:16 AM ET

CAN HE AT LEAST HAVE ONE MAJOR LEAGUE AT-BAT, BEFORE WE TALK ABOUT HALL OF FAME. ANOTHER REASON THE NATIONALS ARE JOKE

February 15, 2012  11:18 AM ET

Guy needs to shut up.

February 15, 2012  12:15 PM ET

Wow the kid is already putting himself in the Hall of Fame? I think that's a task that's not assured to anybody. Remember you have groups of talented pro's in the other dugout that want to make sure you fail each and every day. How do you get there? Work your butt off all year long, year after year and make no assumptions.

Davey Johnson will get him going!!!

one thing its,,, that you be a top draft pick, and another thing its that the media its trying to make you a hall of fame player, firsdt this guy needs to leasrn the walk then he needs to learn the yogging last he needs to learn the running rules, nobody who has being drafted first would be allways first, for harper to be able to acomplish every goal, he would need more than washington conffidence, and to be able to overcome hardships in the long seasons, he would need to keep maturing himself, all in all if he can prove us all wrong he may ended as a yankee OF!!!

this manager its living in the past, and can't turn this franchise towards the agressive path, from here untill the third part of the season johnson will collapse together with the nationals, if the GM do not replace him with another better manager!!!

The sooner he gets to the majors the better - the sooner they start kicking the Phillies ass. Go Nationals!!!!

Now THAT'S funny! Father Time is the only thing that's going to help the Natinals, yes Natinals beat the Phillies. Besides, we're coming down in full force this year to CBP South, thanks to your team's management. Banning people form out of the area from buying tickets? Nice try...ain't happening. Maybe when you can put something other than a minor leage team on the field, you can sell tickets...but for now, be happy you have a few sellouts!

The quote came from the GM, not Harper.

The Nats were 10-8 against the Phillies last year.
