CP3 likes Clippers' chances for landing Smith

08:08 AM ET 02.15 | Can Clippers guard Chris Paul pay off as a recruiter, too? The New York Knicks are the presumptive favorites to sign free-agent swingman J.R. Smith when he returns from China later this week, but [Paul] likes his team's chances of convincing Smith to take less money to sign with it. ... Although the Knicks can offer a prorated share of the $2.5 million mini-midlevel exception for the rest of the season, whereas L.A. can't pay more than the veteran minimum, Paul believes the presence of three of Smith's former teammates on the Clippers' roster and the minutes and shots opened up by the season-ending Achilles injury suffered by Chauncey Billups will be strong lures. "Who knows J.R. better than me?" Paul said of Smith.

RJ will be a moron to choose Clips over NY. First of NY's offense is better suited for guards than whatever Clips run. Secondly there won't be enough minutes in LA as Mo Williams is already crying about playing time. They have a lot of perimeter players in Butler, Mo, CP3 so it will be tough to crack that rotation as compare to Knicks where his competetion is Shumpert, Fields and Walker.... not to mention Knicks can pay him more, NY is a bigger stage since he'll be auditioning for his next contract...

Plus NY can pay him more than Clips. Only fools take less to follow some owner's dream. Leave that to LeFool and his friends in Miami. Come to Linsanity.. this is where it's at!

Don't Come To LA, Bro.

Even The Clippers Deserve Better, Bro.

Exactly! I'm wondering why they would want a shoot first, no defense playing ME guy on their squad...seems like (from the outside) they have a great team chemistry and everyone shares the ball...once "Black Hole JR" joins the team, CP3 will rue the day he commented

The hype is in Clipper land this season and everyone want to be apart of the show. So, expect JR to sign with the Clippers as did Kenyon Martin.

Oh please. The Clippers are a much better situation for him than the Knicks. The Clippers have the second best pg in the league to get him open shots, for starters. They are also much closer to being a championship contender than the Knicks are right now. There was plenty playing time to go around for Mo Williams when Billups was here playing and all he would be doing is taking the playing time Billups used to get. Caron Butler is a SF, too. With JR, they will have a very nice guard rotation with CP3, JR, Mo and Randy Foye. He has already made millions so far playing in China, so he can afford to take a little less for his half of a season in the NBA.

Just ask George Karl

Smith would be a good rental for the Clips. He has been a 6th man before and Mo can start at 2 and he can come off the bench. If they can contain his immaturity he can be a Jason Terry.

The Clippers are probably a top five or six team in basketball, NY is not even top ten. Plus LA has Chris Paul and Blake Griffin.

The Clips' chemistry is already percolating pretty hot. J.R. Smith could easily boil things over.

That's exactly what I was thinking...this guy can be a cancer to a team. I think it's a risky pick up for a contending team.
