Sutter to Penner: Work your [butt] off

08:32 AM ET 02.15 | Well, at least Dustin Penner now knows where he stands with straightforward head coach Darryl Sutter and the Kings -- who recently called up 22-year-old forwards Dwight King and Jordan Nolan from AHL Manchester. Sutter was blunt when asked about [the underperforming Penner]. The left wing, who has five goals and 13 points, has been a healthy scratch the last two games, taking a seat when the young forwards arrived from Manchester. What does Sutter need to see on the ice from Penner? "Work your ... off," Sutter said of the message. "Then you get a chance to play again. If you don't, you don't. ... When you're told to work your ... off, that is square one."

I love when Penner's name is mentioned in trade rumours as of late. How braindead would a GM have to be..

Great Story

work your arse off. wow. we have never heard this problem with Penner before, have we?

February 15, 2012  09:47 AM ET

At this point is Penner still considered "underperforming"?

Seems more like situation normal to me.

Maybe they can trade him to the Caps. Might fit in fine there ;) (Sorry, Slappy)

I'm sure Montreal may want to pick him up...his production dwarfs Gomez's in comparison.

Montreal may want him...his production is miles ahead of Gomez's.

Why you...........the gloves are off now Phantom. That was pretty low, even for a Flyer fan. And starting right now I'm going.............oh well, when you're right............you're right.

Headed to IHOP right now (already had breakfast but I need to drown my sorrows in corn syrup).

Does the CBA allow a player to be traded for a bag of pucks?

February 15, 2012  11:30 AM ET

He has scored over 20 goals just about every full season he has played. Wonder what got into him now. New girlfriend?

February 15, 2012  12:00 PM ET

I think he's one of those players that only produces when he needs more money... The Oilers signed him to a ridiculously large contract and he produced for about 1 year then went into the pooper. He has the talent to be a very good power forward but I think the heart is definitely lacking.

Yup...see Draper, Kris....except the pucks cost more than a dollar.

Penner for Gomez....An under achiever's special.

Good one Canuck. Now if the Kings can find a way to get syrup on a puck he might chase it.

Good thing Kevin Lowe is no longer the Oilers GM. He would've given up Jordan Eberle and a first round pick for Penner.

HA!!! Good one!

Put a poster of pancakes and syrup in the corners and he might go there.
