08:33 AM ET 02.15 | A few days after breaking a yearlong scoring drought, Scott Gomez found himself in the crosshairs Tuesday. The day after he was nailed to the bench for most of a 5-3 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes, Gomez [was chewed out by] assistant coach Randy Ladouceur. ... "I screwed up [on a drill], and he let me know it. It's not the first time; it's not the last time." Gomez is right when he says these things happen on a regular basis, but this one was a bit different because Gomez appeared to be as animated as Ladouceur and there was a second exchange between the two a few minutes later. On that occasion, assistant coach Larry Carriere moved in to serve as a mediator.

If the assistant was a TRUE Habs fan, he would've irrepairably injured Gomez.

If the assistant was a true Hab, he would have turtled immediately.

Randy Ladouceur was way out of line. You don't chew out a 1 goal scorer. ;-)

Still trying to figure out how this dude is avoiding a bus ride in the AHL.

Did he chew him out in French or English?

February 15, 2012  09:35 AM ET

How does a guy who has played as long as Gomez has "screw up" a drill? Seriously!

Spanish?

Scott took a roundhouse swing at Randy and tried to cold-conk him. He missed. Not for the first time. Sigh.

February 15, 2012  09:39 AM ET

Randy had no worries, if Gomez had swung at him, he more than likey would have missed anyway. (till Feb 2013?)

Perhaps if Gomez threw a zap at Cunneyworth, he'd magically start speaking French.

I wonder how Gomez feels about going from 1st line to punch-line?

February 15, 2012  10:06 AM ET

This from Andy Brickley, Bruins TV analyst, on the situation in Montreal, after Canadiens forward Scott Gomez had an argument with an assistant coach at practice Tuesday:

"He's just a one-dimensional player who's not even playing to that dimension. And now he's got an attitude in practice instead of just doing what he should do. It's so wrong right now in Montreal. ??? It's so bad right now in Montreal. I can't imagine how they're going to turn this thing around with a player that they can't move."

My take:

Montreal wants to tank. They want a nice pick and to attempt a quick rebuild. They have some pieces - Price is great, PK, Bourque, Patches, Plekanec, Gionta. And they're going to have to either bury Gomez or buy him out. They know this. But how much worse is their team with him in it? The fact is teams don't "tank it" because players always play with max effort in order to ensure their contract value is as high as possible. But, with Gomez in the lineup, it makes MTL that much worse and therefore their best chance at sliding down the standings.

Far-fetched?
