Raiders GM sends stern message to players

08:00 AM ET 02.16 | Reggie McKenzie, reportedly with the blessing of his owner, is reviewing all aspects of the Raiders organization. It took maybe seven seconds for McKenzie to realize the dysfunctional franchise needs more than a few cosmetic touches. ... Asked at the news conference introducing [Dennis Allen] if he already had begun scouting his current roster, McKenzie replied, yes, he had. For emphasis, he added a second "yes." Roughly a week later, he released starting cornerback Stanford Routt. That was radical. It was perceptive. And it was absolutely proper. It served to announce that the Raiders are in the midst of an overhaul that almost certainly will be for the better.

It's been a long, long time since the Raiders had a GM. A real one, that is.

Any comment would be superfluous. After all Al the impaler is dead(?) so pretty much any move has got to be an improvement

Looking forward to see what The Raiders will do next season!

"It took seven seconds..." and he added a second "yes."
Wow, things are moving forward at Raider Nation. And at such an accelerated clip, too.

better late than never unlike one club that comes to mind.

Give 'em a year or two and there might be a consistent competitor in the AFC West.

Lets hope the ghost of Al doesn't jinx all these positive steps...

They have the talent on paper.

Ditto this. I like what I'm reading up to this point.

"Competing" in the AFC West doesn't make you a competitor. I'm talking about the team becoming relevant in the NFL.

Agreed, they were discipline away from winning the AFC Worst this season. With the changes that have been made, this franchise could become an AFC power within 3 to 5 years. Looking forward to digging out my Raider wear and putting away my black paper bags with silver tint!

The Raiders recent coaching hire affirms they still are locked into the old Al Davis mentality. Until they get rid of that and bring some stability to the team, they'll continue to lose.

Espeically when 8-8 teams win that division every year...doesnt take much

Um, wrong. Al Davis consistently hired offensively minded head coaches. Not since Madden did they have a defensively minded coach. Your comment has no merit.

All of us Raiders fans need to understand that this is a major rebuild. We may lose players we like, and we will probably take a few steps back before we go forward. Don't expect a miracle in the 2012-2013 season. But do expect some major changes that can bring the Raiders back to winning.

And let me just add to my previous response. Al would give the new coach exactly 6 games to make the team a winner. If they were not winning by the 6th game, Al was already looking for a way to get rid of the coach and find a successor. The new GM, McKenzie, knows that consistency is important. He said so multiple times. He should understand that Allen will need to get his system in place for awhile before the consistent winning happens.

How long does it take to change something like that though? This team was basically created under that image and how will "Raider Nation" respond to the possibility of a team of character, assuming that's the direction they intend to move.
