The case against Brandon Weeden

08:02 AM ET 02.16 | What might keep Brandon Weeden, who threw for nearly 10,000 yards over the past two seasons at Oklahoma State, from having success at the next level? Weeden plays in a high percentage half-read college spread offense. Just by the nature of the offense, he is supposed to put up big numbers; it's very quarterback friendly. ... There have been many quarterbacks who have played in similar offenses in the past 8-10 years who have done little in the NFL. Many quarterbacks who have played in half-field read spread offenses struggle when they get to the NFL because they have to learn how to play from under center, set up and read the whole field. It's a whole new concept. Weeden struggled in the Senior Bowl playing from under center.

Well, then, there are teams in the NFL where he'd be a perfect fit.

Interesting. To save the rest of you the trouble of looking it up, he was the first round draft pick of the NY Yankees a few years back, bounced around baseball a bit, and then went to college.

That orange outfit looks like a prison jumpsuit, maybe he would be a natural for Cleveland.

February 16, 2012  08:54 AM ET

He won't be a first-rounder, but there are 32 NFL teams with clipboards to be carried. Weeden will get a chance somewhere.

It matches his hair, too. The Bungles should be interested.

Thats what I was thinking too...he'll already be older than 75% of the starting QBs in the league...how high can his ceiling be? Heck if I was 7-8 years older than the guys I played with I BETTER look like a beast!

Here in Charlotte, we call that the Chris Weinke syndrome....dumb **** Seifert drafted that bum when he was head coach here...how'd that work out? 1-15 is the answer...

He needs first-round, starter-franchise-quarterback money so he can afford a decent haircut.

Brady plays in a high percentage half-read pro spread offense.

Same for Peyton.

I think Brady and Peyton are reading the whole field, regardless of what formation they might be in. They're both pretty good playing from under center, too.
