08:08 AM ET 02.17 | Art Rooney II entered his side of the story. Not only did [Rooney] say he had nothing to do with the hiring of Todd Haley, but the Steelers president also was a bit surprised that coach Mike Tomlin wound up hiring him as his new offensive coordinator. "I think the bottom line is, Mike was comfortable that's who he wanted to come in," Rooney said Thursday afternoon. "It may be fair to say that when he started the discussions and Todd's name was on his original list, I don't think he expected that Todd was the guy he was going to wind up hiring. But as he had more conversations with him, he became more comfortable that he was the right guy for the job."

Owner questioning coach??? Not good......

Or maybe it's "Owner leaving winning coach alone," which seems like a good philosophy to me.

ARII is just doing some PR work here......after basically dictating the release of Bruce Arians, he's giving a public statement supporting Mike Tomlin's authority to hire the OC of his choice...

Reads more that Tomlin was surprised that Haley was more of a fit then he expected then Rooney 2 questioning his coach.

Rooney stated in the article that Haley was purely Tomlins hire, he had nothing to do with it. He wants to limit his "hands on" with the team and front office.

Shoulda hired Kate Upton. That's what I would've done. Damn. How long do you think they'll leave her up there on the FN page?

They'd better not take her down until something better comes along.

And no, the picture of Nancy Pelosi winning Best Female Dog at the Westminster Kennel Club show this week isn't better.

OK. But he had final say, do not doubt that. He let his HC pick , only fair, because if it does not work out the HC will be gone, Haley will be gone and Art Rooney II will still be there.

Art......Mike hired him because he is a yes guy, what ever Mike says is right in Haleys mind......
since Haley probaly didn't have many better options.

That makes more sense........I must have been thinking about Jerry Jones........

If you're spending your retirement thinking about Jerry Jones, you need to go back to work.

Hmm....there was a reason Haley was given the "OPPORTUNITY TO EXCEL, SOMEWHERE ELSE" by the Chiefs.

Who fired Arians?

February 17, 2012  09:28 AM ET

Haley was a good pick-up but this is not worth a thread

Let's see what we have here. 1) A coach did his job. 2) An owner commented that his coach did his job. 3) Some idiot SI reporter decided this was news. 4) Some idiot SI editor decided to fabricate the headline that the owner was surprised his coach did his job. 5) An idiot CNN editor, not wanting to be out dumbed by an SI editor picked it up and changed the CNN headline to say that the owner was "shocked" that his coach had done his job. WOW ..... good stuff

Haley doesn't matter--what does is the fact that Ben, Troy & the boys are beat up & showing their age..I mean--losing to Tebow in the playoffs !!...Steelers need some young players---not so much new coaches...
