07:54 AM ET 02.19 | While the Cubs remain front-runners to sign Jorge Soler, the White Sox might spend even more heavily to make that deal happen. They have few projectable run-producers coming behind Dayan Viciedo and positioned themselves to make a deal happen by trading Carlos Quentin and Jason Frasor while allowing Mark Buehrle and Juan Pierre to leave via free agency.

The million dollar question is: Does anyone absolutely know how good this guy will be?

Lots of the these Cuban (and Asian) guys are hyped, but fall short of expectations.

The fact that this 19 year old kid gets to shop himself to every team in baseball and become an instant millionaire, while American kids are subject to the draft still isn't right IMO. MLB needs to change this now and make all these players have to go through the draft process.

the league should have better type of rules and polizas, when it have to do with signing forenier players, should they go through the same type of process???

The Cubbies better do whatever needs to be done to sign Soler. It's not like they have any trade bait to acquire the prospects they need and even the most naive fans are getting tired of waiting for real success instead of hype.

Wow, this move would definitely pave the way to the World Series!!!

How about a supplemental draft, sort of like football does in some situations, to solve that problem? Set a date, have teams draft, and in whichever round the guy goes, that team forfeits their pick in that round in the regular draft that year.

The hype around Epstein here has been a tad hyperbolic. If you listened to the Cubs fans calling radio stations in Chicago, you wouldn't even think Hoyer was their GM.

This is being taken care of with the new collective bargaining agreement. That's why there's such interest in the Cubans like Soler, Concepcion, and Cespedes this year, because it's the last year they can just throw money at them to get them.
