08:29 AM ET 02.19 | According to Damon, he no longer is considering a return to the Yankees as a free agent. "We both are looking at other options now," Damon told The Post yesterday, and called it "unfortunate." According to Yankees general manager Brian Cashman, Damon contacted the club. The Yankees closing the door on Damon means Raul Ibanez is the prohibitive favorite for the left-handed DH spot they spoke to Damon about.

I doubt that Damon was even on the Yankees radar.

Who ever it is the Yankees sign as a LH DH is not going to bat against LH pitching.
Arod, Jeter , Jones and Nunez will share that duty.

Ibanez has better power numbers. Both can play the OF a little, Ibanez also has some time at 1B.
He was born in NYC. for what it is worth.

Agreed.

Depends on what you're looking for. Ibanez is marginally a better power hitter; Damon's OBP is marginally better. My recollection is Ibanez is streakier. Damon is a little younger. Damon also has history with the club. Neither is peaking.

Damon's arm is suspect. I don't think either are being considered for defensive support. Damon also was being switched to first base last year in Tampa Bay.

he was on the radar as was matsui

To be honest I'd rather sign none of the above

February 19, 2012  09:40 AM ET

If Damon wants to get to 3,000 hits, he will have to go the Matt Stairs route: 7 different teams in the next 5 years, picking up PH and part time DH at bats.

Dead on. They have a Damon-type guy in Gardner, and probably prefer a little pop, plus someone to spell Teixeira every once in a while.

Damon should be looking for a team such as Baltimore, Toronto, or Seattle. All could possibly use him on a part-time basis.

8,175,133 according to the 2010 census.

the yankees and damon had their differences exsposed, the yankees would like a left hander but he should have so leverage in his diffense, about damon he its a lefty but lacks in his diffense plus their age between ibanez and damon should be a factor surprise!!!!

Right on queue. Whenever some yokel from East Bumphuque or someone who lives 5,000 miles away in the third world wants to exaggerate the size of his ****, break out the "New York sucks" comments.

Hey, if it make you feel better about your miserable one horse shyttehole, knock yourself out.

agree, but baltimore can't just sign players, they have experienced wrong results at every season, it seems as if the birds have changed their business approach!!!

I love how Damon spins it, like a mutual breakup...doesn't seem like the Yanks had much interest at all.
