Packers about to lose central figure

08:06 AM ET 02.21 | Scott Wells and the Packers may well be headed for divorce. In so many words, Wells is being told by the Green Bay Packers that he has overvalued himself as an undersized, 31-year-old center no matter how well he has played for them. Wells basically is telling the team, "Watch what happens." Looking for a warm and fuzzy resolution to the contractual disagreement between the Packers and their best offensive lineman? Three weeks before the start of unrestricted free agency, the best guess is the Packers will play with a new center next season. ... [The Packers] have the financial flexibility to pay Wells the contract commensurate with the five highest-paid centers that he is seeking.

Salary cap issues, FA, other teams raiding the coaching staff and front office, all of these things happen to every team, but occur more with the most successful teams. ie>>> Champions
Mangler.

I'd argue that Cruz > Smith and Ballard/Beckum > Boss...not much of a loss considering what the replacements did last season.

The Packers may have already played and won their last super bowl.
Being a small market team with no owners with deep pockets, the packers are forced to give up good players and hope to replace them with draft picks.
This season it was Cullen Jenkins who was 1/2 the teams pass rush. He had a very good season this year elsewhere. The Pack would have been in the SB with him for sure, he was that missing link.
Instead they were to rely on Mike Neal to replace him. Neal has been a bust and then some. Always injured and ineffective.
The Pack will let Wells go to and then spend a draft pick replacing him and getting a lesser pass rusher where the need is big.
I envision the Ted Thompson cheap ball trick not working anymore. Too bad the fans will have to watch a lot of also ran teams in the future.
Ted will not compete for those unrestricted free agents who can get you to the SB. No money.

Has nothing to do with not having money. They have plenty. It has to do with TTs philosophy. Jenkins wasn't the missing link. Stick-um was. Our receivers/TEs played like crap in our 2 losses. TTs philosophy has worked pretty well so far, so I trust the guy.
