08:16 AM ET 02.21 | Carl Crawford's owner didn't much help the outfielder move on from a forgettable 2011. Though his goal was to regain a positive mindset as soon as his first season ended, Crawford undoubtedly cringed again when Red Sox owner John Henry said during a radio interview in October that he voted against the signing that brought the left fielder to Boston. ... Crawford isn't sure when he will be cleared to hit. Though general manager Ben Cherington and Valentine have both sounded skeptical that he can make it back in time for Opening Day, the competitor in Crawford refuses to rule it out. "I don't know. In my mind, I think the odds are good," Crawford said.

That's the spirit Carl.

I didn't realize this guy was that mentally soft. He seemed a lot tougher when he played in Tampa. Bobby needs to appease this guy and make him as comfortable as possible when he returns. Stick him in the 2 hole in the batting order, where he is most comfortable and try to get him back on track. I think batting 7th last year screwed up mind set. That and he needs to grow a pair.

This is all good. Sit back and watch non-Red Sox believers. Carl is going to tear it up this year.

So anyone who is not a fan of the team you root for is a "non-believer?" That sounds like radical Iranian rhetoric to me.

two issues here the way i see it. pretty clear he put a lot of pressure on himself after signing a big deal in a baseball mecca. assuming he relaxes a bit he's gonna be better. other issue, though, is that if you look at his career stats, carl crawford is a good player who got great player money from boston. not sure he'll ever be good enough to justify the contract. crawford seems like a good guy so i hope it works out for him one way or the other.

I think the guy has a pretty good chance of having a year more like what he did in Tampa. I think he put a lot of pressure on himself last year and played tense. He's gotta go out there loose and let it fly.

Yes CSF, if A then B does not necessarily mean if B then A................however you already knew that.As for my having a college degree, SEVERAL people on this site have them and they have good jobs (like the one I landed the beginning of this month) so they: a.) have 'lulls' behind work/assignments and b.) have access to a computer..............I'd imagine ditch-diggers don't have those luxuries, but "the world needs ditch-diggers TOO!!!"(flips quarter to Judge Smails)

Congrats on the job....
