Davis offers little relief for Rays

08:13 AM ET 02.21 | Depending on your calculations, the Rays may have as many as eight candidates for the five-man rotation. All of which leaves Wade Davis and Jeff Niemann battling for one spot. And the other apparently headed to the bullpen. Davis, 26, is adamant that he doesn't want to go. "I'm a starter," he said. "I don't see any reason for me to be in the bullpen. I understand they've got to do certain things, but we'll see. ... I definitely want to be a starter and stay a starter forever. And that'll be my mentality." ... And if he is sent [to the bullpen], he might end up approaching them, though he wouldn't have much leverage to force a trade. "If it ever did come to that, it's something we'd talk about then," he said.

Niemann will be gone soon. They'll scout some prospects from another organization and get a deal done. And then Davis, Shields, Price, Hellickson, Archer, and so on.
