Sharks emerge as strong contender for Nash

08:22 AM ET 02.22 | Though some have considered San Jose to be comfortable merely adding Martin Havlat, there are bigger fish on the board. [The Sharks] are emerging as a strong contender for Rick Nash. Sources say Columbus initially targeted Logan Couture, but was quickly told that was a non-starter. But, make no mistake, San Jose will stay in the mix until Monday's deadline. Nash and Sharks veteran Joe Thornton are good friends and have shown an impressive chemistry when playing together internationally that isn't being overlooked. The Sharks would prefer an off-season deal to avoid the in-season disruption, but San Jose is keen. ... [Scott Howson] tells TSN there has been a lot of creativity suggested with a variety of his players.

The Pens?

Nice to see the Jackets spank the Sharks last night.
Carter with the hat trick...

February 22, 2012  09:06 AM ET

So now Nash can learn to shrink in the playoffs? Well...maybe not this year.

February 22, 2012  09:19 AM ET

Only 5 more days until the headline changes to Nash traded to [ insert team here ] during offseason.

February 22, 2012  09:25 AM ET

So he can be selfish among players who can really play? I don't think it will fly there.

February 22, 2012  09:28 AM ET

If he goes anywhere before the dealine it will be LA. If he makes it to the offseason, it'll be wide open again.

2 Nash threads back to back...

you've mentioned this before. Why so certain?
the only thing I was certain about was Kubina to Philly, but this stuff is always in motion

because LA's got a GM with his job on the line.

"Sharks emerge as strong contender for Nash."

The Sharks shouldn't forget Danny Heatley and Devin Setoguchi are available. ;-)

true...but in the final analysis, aren't they all? (with very few exceptions)
You think Holmgren is staying after this season if the Flyers don't get out of Round One?

February 22, 2012  11:05 AM ET

Not recommended for those under 14 and Leaf fans.

Given what we've been able to accomplish and how the Carter and Richards trades shook out, yeah i think Homer is fine. The Bryz signing was the one thing i bet he'd want a do-over on, but i'm faily certain that was a Snider mandated task anyway. I don't necessarily hold him entirely accountable for that.

As far as Bryz is concerned, yeah he's sucking this year. So is Miller. So is Miller a bad goalie because of one season? Is Bryz? It's year one of nine. I won't get my hopes up, but i'm sure he'll be better next year. He can't get worse. Worse case scenario he stays the same. For the time being tho, he will be referred to as Bryzgaleighton.

Goaltending is a lot like pitching. It's a lot more mental/confidence than it is talent level...every goalie in the NHL suffers from lack of confidence every now and then. Miller and Bryz have shown that they are very capable goalies...they just need to get their confidence back. Some handle it better than others.

Goalies are a very tough thing to judge when they're "in the middle" I honestly never thought Bryz was all that great...very good, he could be. Miller i think is just beaten up and beaten down and needs a change of scenery

I'll still waiting for Ilya to prove he's a capable goalie. He's never impressed me, at all.
