08:14 AM ET 02.22 | The Cards are on the clock. The agent for Cardinals Gold Glove catcher Yadier Molina on Tuesday provided a timetable for negotiations regarding a contract extension by indicating his client would not engage the club in talks during the upcoming season. Melvin Roman, who also represents Cardinals lefthander Jaime Garcia, clarified Molina's stance shortly after entering the Roger Dean Stadium complex and speaking with general manager John Mozeliak. Roman plans to remain in town several days but said he had no idea whether the parties would re-start talks about his client. "It could be tomorrow. It could be two days. It could be two weeks."

Let him go and just sign one of his brothers instead. Nobody will ever notice.

True dat / Let's not get our underwear in a knot quite yet!

As it should be - sign him before the season starts - or just shut it until the season is over. It's the right thing to do. Too many distractions in the season as it is - to add negotiations in the mix is just not wise.

It is the Yankee way...it actually is, they started doing that many years ago.

Riiiiigggghht..... (not).

The newest identity scandal involving Latin players will be the discovery that the Molina brothers are actually one person.
They played with and against each other, you say? I point to the episode where Batman met Bruce Wayne in front of the press...yes, it was Alfred the butler donning the mask in Molina vs. Molina games.

Molina is Batman?

Molina is not a deal breaker...StL will get him inked to a new deal for sure.

I think it is a good idea to let his deal play out...it will inspire him to play well this season.

that's not smart enough thing to do, best thing to do its,,,,, just to be patient and workout some short term contract, and just let the actions behind the plate be the answer for the excecutives in the cards franchise, after all your performance has the last word!!!!

..........or inspire him to open up a tortilla factory.

No, especially not considering who his best buddy is.

I am not too concerned about waiting. Like JeffHart just said, it may inspire him to have a big contract year.

February 22, 2012  05:22 PM ET

I would go ahead and trade him to the Angels so he can be with his buddy. He is going to make $7 million this year. I think wants to be the highest paid catcher in baseball and I don't think the Cards can afford him.

February 22, 2012  05:31 PM ET

Scenario: he doesn't negotiate, breaks his leg and out for the season. How much would he stand to lose in his next contract?

Exactly. Hopefully Jeff is correct but I wonder what will happen if he has a bad year?????

So, this time next year Molina will have signed as a free agent with someone else?
