Bowman may quietly working on impact deal

08:25 AM ET 02.22 | Signs of life are showing again in Chicago, which may further complicate things for Stan Bowman. More than anything the Hawks' renewed urgency reminded us nobody in the organization will be satisfied with another competitive, first-round playoff exit. Everybody agrees progress means winning championships, not just a playoff series. Now it's time to back up those words with bold action by the GM. As active as competitors in the West have been, maybe Bowman quietly is closing in on an impact deal. He will get the benefit of the doubt until 2:01 p.m. Monday. What happens to the Blackhawks' roster between now and then might mean the difference between a special season and merely a successful one.

2:01, you say? Can't wait!

February 22, 2012  08:43 AM ET

Generic journalism at its finest. You can replace the team and GM name with any other and have the exact same story.

he may work a deal. or may not.
did we cover everything?

by then we should have;
a) 712 more stories on some teams being interested...or not...in Nash
b) Burke being irked about any one of a dozen things, from lousy media to the beer at road games
c) Some manner of Minnesota WIld thread
d) bettman stating that they are crying out for a team in Ames, Iowa

Guess the Interns have the week off for School Vacation this week.

Bowman may quietly working on impact deal

Me fail Engrish, that unpossible.

Spiny,

I can tell you one thing that WON'T happen at 2:01 p.m. Pittsburgh DEFINTELY won't have Nash, and Crosby still won't have a timeline for a return. :(

Working on an impact deal...is he trading himself???

No that would be an "impacted" deal.

You know, like wisdom teeth or your dog's anal glands.

February 22, 2012  10:22 AM ET

Wow they actually have a story without the name Nash in it.

"He will get the benefit of the doubt until 2:01 p.m."

So .... what happens after 2:01 p.m. and nothing's happened? Will daddy fire him or just give him a spanking?

I agree. At least I hope you're right. The way the boys are playing now they don't need to gut the team for a winger. I would have loved for Shero to have picked up the D men that Holmgren did and then give Martin and Michalek the boot.

Kane
Emery
Stalberg
1st

For

Miller
Gaustad
Roy
Stafford

Blackhawks receive the experienced goalie to backup Enroth, 2nd line centre to replace Kane(Roy), scoring depth (Stafford) and 3rd line grit (Gaustad).

Sabres get Kane, a potential hometown superstar, a vet backup to Enroth (Emery) and a 1st round pick in this or next years draft and a promising youngster in Stalberg.

Done.

February 22, 2012  03:22 PM ET

Sorry about the mix-up... obviously Hawks get the money 'tender in Miller... not the vet backup (Emery). OOoops.

Matteau and Noonan for Amonte.....

Scottie wants Biff-sockem back in front of the net on the Blackhawks man-advantage situations - AND the Jets should have him there too, at least on the relief powerplay when he's fresh enough. He's definitely a top-six forward, and a top-four defender now. Would ya believe, Seabrook (or #2 hisself) AND Sharpe, for Byf and the Wpg 2012 first round pick - which, of course, COULD still be a lottery pick, but I sincerely doubt it.
