Rich Central sophomore Crandall Head made it official after Sunday's Illinois-Penn State game. "I'm committing to Illinois," said the brother of Luther Head, one of the key players on the 2005 Illini team that finished second to North Carolina in the NCAA tournament. Head became the sixth player to commit. Coach Bruce Weber has one commitment from the class of 2008, three from 2009 and two from 2010.

January 7, 2008  10:05 AM ET

I'm waiting for kindergarten kids to start declaring any day now.

January 7, 2008  10:19 AM ET

January 7, 2008  11:02 AM ET

yes it was a proud day when that little sparkle in my eye became a Buckeye!

January 7, 2008  11:50 AM ET

How sleazy is the NCAA getting? Geez, recruiting underclassmen in high school !! What next, recruiting in elementary school?

January 7, 2008  12:12 PM ET

xxx84xxx if you're unborn son is going to be a buckeye, then i pledge my unborn daughter to play for pat summit at the university of tennessee. she won't be born for another 3 years, but she'll have one hell of a dribble.

After some exhaustive research and a quick call to cooley friend of mine...China mandates that parents make prenatal committments for their kids to serve the Peoples' Republic in some fashion......Now, that's the Walk of Life

January 7, 2008  01:13 PM ET

TRUTH, I am down with parental commitment... it could improve some of the decision making that goes on in college, plus the system in NCAA football is not democratic but more socialist, so adopting this from China would be great.

January 7, 2008  01:21 PM ET

fair enough HOV, although I might try and convince you to send her to OSU, I think Summit will be gone by then.....

January 7, 2008  01:53 PM ET

Pat Summit will never die..she drinks white lightnin' and eats brass nails!

January 7, 2008  02:01 PM ET

Too bad Bruce won't be there in 2010

January 7, 2008  02:25 PM ET

My 3yr old.... 3'3'' 40lbs center has committed to Oklahoma

January 7, 2008  02:36 PM ET

Great, he can play for Jeff Capel the IV

January 7, 2008  02:51 PM ET

This is insane, I know that UCLA just did this too and USC has done it twice. Crazy. From what I understand the very first recorded instance at DI backed out and went elsewhere ... because the kid thought he'd be homesick, seriously. I'm shocked the NCAA is looking past this little loophole of recruiting and allowing schools to bypass that rule by seeking out the kids pre-high school. You think HS stars have big egos now? Think about a 12 or 13 year old strutting around the playground with a piece of paper from a DI school. Sad.

January 7, 2008  03:44 PM ET

xxx84xxx: As long as my unborn daughter can start and play the point, I don't care what school she goes to. All her father asks for is the best seats to all her games, and some great seats for Football season.

I would be the kind of dad the NCAA has to watch out for.

January 7, 2008  03:45 PM ET

As a matter of fact I have to announce that my son will be committing to play QB for the University of Michigan in 2031.

January 7, 2008  03:46 PM ET

My boy will be a Wolverine, my girl can go wherever she likes. Double standard...I know.

January 7, 2008  03:57 PM ET

then atleast we know the rivalry will continue, I'll groom my son to play OLB, so they can meet in the backfield
