Pack ready to shop Flynn?

08:03 AM ET 02.23 | By signing Jermichael Finley on Wednesday, the Packers can now find another target for their franchise tag. They're unlikely to use it on center Scott Wells, who will be an unrestricted free agent, because the franchise salary for an offensive lineman is $8.4 million, which is likely more than they would be willing to pay. But they could use it on quarterback Matt Flynn, which could put them in the middle of a bidding war for the young backup's services. If they franchise Flynn before the March 5 deadline, they would be on the hook for a $14.4 million salary, but their intention would be to do a sign-and-trade. In other words, they would shop Flynn to those interested in him and take the best offer.

He definitely won't be a blue-light special.

The right handed Scott Mitchell.

Didn't I say this like 2 days ago? Didn't I? Huh?

I deserve a cut. Maybe half a jelly donut, or whatever currency or commodity they pay interns in. (Not a crappy Dunkin one with no trans fat that tastes like cardboard, though.)

I'm going to suggest something: the Colts sign Flynn as a FA, trade the top pick for a host of other picks, and start to rebuild their team from the ground up.

Cinnabon... with that bad ass frosting!

He's garbage, Comet.

I think he's decent. Yeah, he hasn't played much, but he hasn't done badly in any of those outings.

Still, Comet's right. There will be takers. Remember last season? The Jets even talked to JaMarcus Russell. I think the conversation went something like, "Hey, JarJar. You all right down there? Don't drown in that gutter water now, y'heah?" But, at least they talked to him.

I tried rewarding myself the other day with one of those high-fiber, low carb and sugar donuts at the coffee shop downstairs from my office. I paired it with a black coffee in order to go with my "I'm over 40 now diet".

It all made me quite sad and I longed for something...anything from Krispy Kreme.

As long as the Pack can get something they need in return.

$14.4M is a lot for a guy who's only really played two games.

And that rules out the Bears...

Sorry... that's just force-of-habit from the Jerry Angelo days.

I think you're on to something here. This guy had a couple of really good games. Yes, he played extremely well in the games he started, but the team he played for has Super Bowl talent. He likely won't be enjoying that kind of talent at his next stop. He could be the right-handed Scott Mitchell or the younger version of Matt Cassel.

The deal worked out great for Matt Cassel. And, it worked out great for the Patriots. It could work out for Flynn and the Packers, too.

(Ssshhh. Don't remind any of the other teams how badly it worked out for Kansas City.)

Do they still have KKs down your way? They shut every one in New England. A few years back, I was on a business trip to Huntsville and my daughter called to ask me to bring back a dozen for a party she was having.

I had some laughs with the TSA about taking them on the plane. Actual smiling, happy laughs. Krispy Kremes will do that to even the most hardened federal agent.

Does it matter? I mean KC hasn't been relevant for what, like 30 years?

Not as easy as it sounds. You need a trading partner BEFORE you can tag him, and then a second round pick is the going rate.

"The one thing they don't want to happen is to get stuck with Flynn on their roster at $14.4 million with no trade partner."

My thoughts precisely. If they announce they've tagged Flynn, it means they've already got a handshake with somebody.

So, what are the key dates coming up? Peyton Manning Day. Tagging Day. Free Agency Day. What else?

Yeah, St. Patricks Day, when we all get really drunk to forget Super Tuesday.
