08:11 AM ET 02.23 | While the Red Sox came unglued in September, Dustin Pedroia remained a moderate success for the scuffling team. With Jason Varitek -- who is mulling retirement -- likely gone, the Red Sox will lean on Pedroia's guidance much more. Since 2006, Pedroia has been a key cog for the team. ... [The] second baseman is a candidate to usurp Varitek and earn the "C" tag. But Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said Wednesday the decision to handpick a captain belongs to the players. "If the team thinks a captain's a cool thing, I think that could be considered," Valentine. "It's not that I don't think a captain's necessary. Then again, I don't know that it's so necessary you can't live without it."

Please, BoSox, stop with the lame "C" on the uniform.

Being captian doesn't mean a whole lot which is why most baseball teams don't have one. I guess if I had to pick one guy on the Sox to be one it would be Pedroia. I still hope they don't go that route at least for this season.

Bobby Jenks is the next captain.

How can you 'usurp' someone who has not been re-signed, or someone who retires? Usurp means to 'take by force or without right'.

Maybe NESN writers should check the dictionary before using words they aren't familiar with.

And yes, please get rid of the silly "C". These are the Red Sox, not the Bruins.

QUOTE(#14):

And even if we win, if we win, HAH! Even if we win! Even if we play so far above our heads that our noses bleed for a week to ten days; even if God in Heaven above comes down and points his hand at our side of the field; even if every man woman and child held hands together and prayed for us to win, it just wouldn't matter because all the really good looking girls would still go out with the guys from Mohawk because they've got all the money! It just doesn't matter if we win or we lose. IT JUST DOESN'T MATTER! Rest of group: IT JUST DOESN'T MATTER! IT JUST DOESN'T MATTER! IT JUST DOESN'T MATTER! IT JUST DOESN'T MATTER! IT JUST DOESN'T MATTER! IT JUST DOESN'T MATTER! IT JUST DOESN'T MATTER!

Um..... Morning PK.
