08:04 AM ET 02.24 | Lovie Smith, who hadn't talked publicly for nearly two months, seemed to make up for lost time. [A] question related to stopping Calvin Johnson but, interestingly, Smith expanded his answer to detail how athletic, physical receivers in Johnson's mold "goes along with what teams are doing now." Teams other than the Bears, that is. ... If the Chargers allow 6-foot-5 wide receiver Vincent Jackson to enter free agency -- reports Thursday indicated they still are considering the franchise tag -- somebody will overpay for the 29-year-old difference-maker. As Smith implied in his enthusiastic analysis of big wide receivers, the Bears with roughly $25 million of salary-cap space have as good of a reason as any team.

I thought they had Roy Williams ?

Overpay is the key word here.

February 24, 2012  08:23 AM ET

Aren't the Bears more worried about how far they are under the minimum, rather than the cap?

Too bad the Skins are going to grab him for Peyton and RG3 to throw to though....

Mwaaaahahahahahhaa!!!

There's plenty of WR talent available in the draft. Why pay so much money to a one trick pony?

If I'm Jackson and I hear of the Bears interest in me, I go into AJ office and call him the dirtbag that he is face to face and proceed to tell him how disruptive of a force I will be if I'm tagged.

It would serve both parties, namely Jackson, to completely separate. This guy AJ is untrustworthy and a scumbag!

Dirtbag and scumbag would be the nicest terms I used if I were VJ, BK...

WR is the missing ingredient. Before cutler went down, the Bears were a possible play off team.
Playmakers win games.

When the Pats played the Chargers last year, VJax was the only weapon San Diego had. How stupid do you thing the Chargers front office is?

Oh, yeah. This is the team that let Sproles get away, isn't it? Never mind.

Lots of Wide Recievers out there, the question is how much do you want to pay for Your Loose Cannon? Go for Manningham, you will move da chains!!!

A good point... but the Bears do need a strong +1 wide-out, and with the new cap rules in place, they pretty much have no reason not to spend the $$$$.

It all does make sense, for both VJax and the Bears. With a salary floor in place, it actually helps the Bears to overpay for players.
