07:53 AM ET 02.26 | Junior Stephen Morris enters as the favorite over sophomore Ryan Williams and even more so, freshmen Preston Dewey and Gray Crow when Miami spring football practice opens next weekend. But the program's leaders also have their eye on the long-term view. "It's going to be Quarterback U [again]," offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch proclaimed recently. "We want to bring that back." Said Al Golden: "We've got to get back to being the benchmark for quarterbacks."

Easy to proclaim, more difficult to actually accomplish.

But it's what the Canes need, among other things -- such as a world-class defense lawyer. Too bad Johnnie Cochran has gone to the great courtroom in the sky, he'd be perfect.

No, the "Quarterback University" designation rests with LSU and Bama right now. A school is going to have to work real hard to wrestle it away from them.

USC has had that title of "Quarterback U" for the last 10+ years, if Miami wants that title again, then it will take them a few years with a lot of hard work and good recruiting.

When I was growing up Stanford was being touted as "Quarterback U" ...
... and PSU was claiming to be "Linebacker U" ...
... and tOSU was claiming to be "Tailback U" ...
... <note: USC was also claiming to be "Tailback U"> ...
... so that leaves "D Line U" for LSU ...
... and "O Line U " for 'Bama ...
... "DB U" is still up for grabs ...

I agree, eventually the list of good QBs at USC will come to an end, maybe after this year.

Now days it's probably not safe to tout yourself as "QB U"

If there's more than 1 good QB on your roster someone is bound to transfer ...
