Crennel's QB comments could cost Chiefs

08:15 AM ET 02.27 | Romeo Crennel knew he was walking a thin line, but he may have crossed it anyway. [Crennel] could get fined and the Chiefs stripped of a draft choice for comments their head coach made at the NFL scouting combine. Crennel may have run afoul of the league's policy on tampering with his comments on two quarterbacks who play for other teams, Peyton Manning of Indianapolis and Chad Henne of Miami. ... On Manning, who is under contract with the Colts but soon could be released, Crennel said, "I'm not supposed to talk about anyone else's players. He's still a player with Indianapolis. But with a talent like that, I would be crazy not to consider it if he were available. I'll leave it at that."

That is subject to a fine?

Joking right? He makes the same comment that everyone else in the country and that's a big thing??

Commenting that Peyton has talent and would be considered if he was a FA really doesn't sound like tampering, but the NFL has some pretty strange rules....

How the hell is this.... Nevermind.

I'll join the chorus. Is that all he said? If Jolly Roger comes down on him for something that trivial, well, it's Roger, after all. Maybe make him wear a silly hat during the draft or something, to show that he had incurred His Majesty's Holy Wrath, or fine him a dollar, or get a nun to whack his knuckles with a ruler.

Worst case scenario for Crennel is that his team loses a fifth round pick and gets the colts 6 pick in return.
And a fine. Still, he has been around and should know better.

As ridiculous as it seems... Yes - it is.

Probably, but when I think of "tampering" I think of a GM calling an agent, not a coach stating the obvious.

I have different ideas of tampering with Kate Upton, though.

You have to add this to the reports that the chiefs had already talked to Condon about Peyton (which would have been a nice addition to this article) and the evidence is stacking up against them in a tampering case.

Romeo should have taken his queue from Mora and said "Peyton! Peyton! I'm not talking about Peyton!"

Or he could have been creative and sang:
"KC Could be a little Peyton Place, and Roger's just a Happy Valley Hippocrit"

February 27, 2012  11:08 AM ET

Romeo, Romeo, where fore art Peyton Manning!!!

February 27, 2012  11:11 AM ET

Roger Goddell certainly imposes strange rules.
