08:14 AM ET 02.28 | Coming off a season in which he hit .273 with 92 RBIs, Asdrubal Cabrera would like to put up more good numbers in Cleveland. "I don't want to be jumping from team to team," said the Indians' shortstop. This is Cabrera's fifth year in the big leagues. He can be a free agent after his sixth season. In February he signed a one-year, $4.55 million deal to avoid arbitration after making $2.025 million last year. GM Chris Antonetti said Cabrera is one of the players he'd consider pursing a multiyear deals with, but the deal has to make sense for the organization. "I want to stay here in Cleveland," said Cabrera. ... "They gave me the opportunity to play in the big leagues. But there's nothing I can do."

The Tribe should lock this guy up ASAP. The closer he gets to free agency the tougher it will be to resign him. With teams like the Yankees, who will need a SS and the Red Sox who always need a SS, out there, chances are he would be gone.

I agree -- whatever it takes. If Cleveland is going to turn into Tampa Bay or another one of the small market teams that competes, they're going to have line up the dough to pay budding superstars ... or they need to get new management.

Cleveland will always draw a better avg attendance than Tampa Bay ever will.
