08:17 AM ET 02.28 | LSU fans used to debating the merits of Jarrett Lee vs. Jordan Jefferson are probably ready for the Zach Mettenberger era. The question remains, however: Is Mettenberger ready for the task? He's certainly eager, and his enthusiasm showed in a recent interview. He was open and upbeat, and he expressed confidence in his abilities and an awareness of his present and past. In his first look ahead to the 2012 season, LSU Coach Les Miles talked specifically about throwing the ball more, alluding to Mettenberger. Quarterbacks Coach Steve Kragthorpe said he's expecting a lot from the 6-foot-5, 225-pound quarterback from Watkinsville, Ga., and the preparation begins in earnest Thursday when the Tigers begin spring practice.

He is a big fellow.

He should give some of his size to Tyler Bray. Kid is 6-6 and maybe 200.

No, but they gave up the QB position a long time ago.

Agree and ease up on the reins also. Pulling the bit through a racehorse's mouth breaks his will to run eventually.

As did Texas, even longer ago.

True...but they ran them off to Tulsa, SMU etc instead of hanging around Austin.

Actually, it started before that. They ran some pretty good ones off to Stanford and Baylor before Tulsa and SMU.

I read a stat somewhere that there were 5 texas QB's that got some consideration/votes for all-conference recognition in D-1 footbal last yearl, but none of them played for UTX......

Don't know but I can probably name four real quick. Luck, Griffen III, Keenum and Kinne.

My bets are Wood at Colorado and GG both look good this year.
