08:10 AM ET 03.01 | Other than with his bat, Derek Jeter doesn't often engage in any Red Sox-Yankees war of words, which made Wednesday unusual. The words came from deep within [Jeter's] body and exited loud enough that had Bobby Valentine been listening 120 miles south the Red Sox manager could have heard them. As Jeter crossed the first-base line in a cutoff drill yesterday morning he roared, "See, we work on it!" Earlier inside the Yankees' clubhouse at George M. Steinbrenner Field, Jeter was grilled about Valentine saying a day earlier he didn't believe Jeter when he said the Yankees practice the play that led to "The Flip" in the 2001 ALDS Game 3 against the A's. ... [Jeter loud voice] was a clear indication he was charged up over the developments.

Hey, the rivalry had been lacking some drama in recent years, but Bobby V. is making sure that won't happen under his watch.

So it would appear.

The Yankees should make it a team policy to ignore anything and everything Bobby V says. By responding, Jeter gave Bobby V exactly what he wanted.

He's going to need a lot more than psychological warfare to distract anyone from last September
