Vikes stadium push takes clever turn

08:03 AM ET 03.02 | If the Vikings wind up with the new stadium they always wanted, credit a nice little bit of marketing. They're calling it the "People's Stadium" and practically shouting from rooftops that construction of a new stadium on the Metrodome site will create about 13,000 jobs. The cherry on top is the boast that no general-fund tax dollars will be used so that, as one politically savvy state senator noted, no money will be stripped away from schools and nursing homes. ... Who would dare say no to something being called the "People's Stadium" and the creation of 13,000 jobs while keeping our schoolchildren and elderly out of financial peril? You'd be accused of being either un-American or under the influence or, worse yet, a [Packers] fan.

Appropriate title for a stadium the People's Republic of Minnesota. Governor Nutjob is loving it.

"No general-fund tax dollars will be used..."
Spin Alert! Does this mean that they will create a new tax, income, sales, gas, whatever, which will go dierectly to the People's Stadium Fund, and thereby never actually pass through the "general-fund," so it's all bookkeeping smoke and mirrors?
Ask the real question. "Will tax dollars be used for this stadium?"

If the people are paying for it, then it should be called the People's Stadium.
