Eagles hiding an agenda with Jackson?

08:07 AM ET 03.02 | The timing of his breakout season, to say nothing of concussion history, certainly didn't help DeSean Jackson. [The tag] can be a minor bit of necessary paperwork on the way to a fair and honorable deal, or it can be a major weapon deployed by a team to impose its will on a player. ... Jackson's teammates are watching how this is handled. They know that the 25-year-old wide receiver isn't the most mature guy on the roster. They also know that he has singlehandedly turned losses into victories and given up his body to make big plays for them. They wonder whether there is an agenda at work, if his role in the offense is affected by the team's interest in keeping his numbers down. That is very unlikely, given the pressure on coaches to win.

First!!

Not sure he is worth the tag value. Fast guy, but questionable hands and attitude. Looks like either a long term deal or trade.

March 2, 2012  08:23 AM ET

I'm surprised to see him tagged too..... Trade him to Oakland.

March 2, 2012  08:32 AM ET

If you tag a wide receiver, you're telling him he's as valuable as Welker or Megatron. I don't think Jackson fits those shoes.

Perhaps his problem was Vick.

What it tells us it the Eagles do not trust him with a long term deal. And they shouldn't.
Once you get tag money the player thinks he is worth that kind of money long term, and with better WR soon to be on the FA market, he is not going anywhere.

in the article-
"In the past, the Eagles used the tag as a blunt instrument in dealing with linebacker Jeremiah Trotter and defensive tackle Corey Simon. Both players sought more money in negotiations than the Eagles were willing to pay. That happens. The Eagles tagged them. That happens. The Eagles then rescinded the tags, essentially releasing the players after the initial flurry of free-agent cash had been spent. That seldom happens, and it made the team look petty and spiteful - it also meant they got nothing in return for two pretty good players."

This.

I can't wait to read whatever Jackson has to say about this.

He had a breakout season?

Please tell me what Simon and Trotter did when they weren't on the Eagles...that's right nothing...I'd say smart moves by the Eagles.

He is more explosive than either Welker or Megatron.

They should just let him go and are only creating a locker room problem by tagging him.

I can't stand the guy. Little punk **** biotch. First thing I'd do if I ever coached a peewee football team would be to show a DeSean Jackson highlight reel of his TD's and tell the kids DO NOT emulate what you're about to see. All the taunting, showboating, running backwards etc...makes me sick to my stomach.

March 2, 2012  09:44 AM ET

It's the Iggles, nothing surprises me, tag the guy that fights with coaches, misses meetings and quits on plays, OK I guess that makes sense.

March 2, 2012  09:51 AM ET

Probably trade him for like a 2nd or 3rd rounder

You cant tell me he isnt their most dynamic playmaker on the outside and his return skills have single handedly won games for them. Im not an Eagles fan or hater but I just dont understand this move. The guy is a game changer and you saw their offense last year when he was a non factor. He routinely gives up his body to make plays, you'd think a team would show some appreciation for that and give him a decent contract. Not Megatron or Larry Fitz $$ but top 10

The Patriots should trade a first rounder for him.
