08:19 AM ET 03.02 | There was a time when Notre Dame football standouts were also standouts on the track -- with Tim Brown, Allen Rossum and Rocket Ismail coming to mind. "The last regime that preceded coach (Brian) Kelly was not really bullish on us having football players run track," said longtime Irish track and field coach Joe Piane. Former ND running back and current ND administrator Reggie Brooks was the force that eventually pulled the two sides together, and found it was an easy sell to Kelly and his director of strength and conditioning, Paul Longo. "We can make them faster," Piane pledged. ... Kelly is open to an influx of Irish football players to track as long as the athletes meet certain academic benchmarks.

I'm a fan of "multi-sport" athletes. If they are good enough to do both, let 'em.

March 2, 2012  08:35 AM ET

Kelly should focus on recruiting faster players.

In today's society too much emphasis is put on the kids to "focus" on just one sport beginning at a young age. My sons both wrestle(d) year round once they hit high school which I did not agree with but supported. Sam Bradford is an example of the old school line of thinking. He was all-state football, basketball and a golfer as well as played hockey and claims this made him a better athlete!

Pray for the people who are going through bad weather and have lost loved ones, people. And pray for the ones on watch right now, because it is looking like it might be bad again.
