Did Burke take easy way out?

08:21 AM ET 03.03 | Well, the majority of Maple Leafs fans and Brian Burke's bootlickers in the media are going to be happy today. The worst coach in hockey history (or so we're lead to believe) has been fired. Wilson, the man everybody seems to hate, is gone, replaced by Randy Carlyle, who was fired by the Anaheim Ducks earlier this season. And that's fine. The Leafs are going nowhere -- again. Burke -- the man with the great rebuild plan, a plan supposedly taking them to the Stanley Cup in the near future -- had to do something, and firing the head coach is always the easy way out.

shoulda been done long ago.

The next one out the door will be Burke himself. It will be a sad day for the liquor store owners in Toronto when he leaves.

Looks like Toronto is going to be stuck in Year 4 of the Glorious 5 Year Plan for the next decade.

Given the roster that he's put together, I'm not surprised. I mean, Connolly as a #1 center?

Phil the Thrill is going to lead them to the promised land. I just know it!

Connolly played maybe five games on the first line. It was a disaster from the get-go. Second-worst move of his tenure.

I saw Lupul and Macarthur at Golf Town a couple days ago..

Second worst? What was the first, Diane Phaneuf or hiring Wilson or trading for Kessel?

That's never a good sign.

On a side note, they just opened a couple of those in the States. One about 15 minutes away.

Kessel. Always Kessel. Burke didn't hire Wilson, Fletcher did.

Good stores. I love their clothing selection. Good golf apparel.

But he kept him. Although that might have more to do with those "college photos" that Ronnie will probably release today.

Fixed.

Oh what have I done now?

March 3, 2012  09:41 AM ET

Did he take the easy way out? Sure he did. Instead of looking around for a good assistant or even a good AHL coach he went and recycled an NHL coach. Hiring Bylsma worked for the Pens because he had coached half the guys on the team when they played in Wilkes-Barre. I don't think the same would work for the Marlies coach because I don't think very many of the Leafs started with the Marlies. You can correct me if I'm wrong. I'm sure you would anyway. :)

Wasn't aware of that, thought Burke did a housecleaning when he got there.

You get points for the effort. Unlike the Leafs.
