09:36 AM ET 03.03 | The biggest storyline surrounding the football team is all about starting quarterback. Don't get it twisted: The Texas coaches know the name of the 2012 starter just like they knew that Garrett Gilbert would be the starter at this time last year. Watching the first of two open practices at Royal-Memorial Stadium on Friday, the gap between Case McCoy and David Ash was noticeable. One had great chemistry with the wideouts, while the other had his ups and downs. Ash is the guy and it's not even close.

Last summer it was more like hell then heaven around here! Come to think of it, hell might have been cooler than July '11 in Texas.

OK, reports out of Austin from early spring training observations - everybody on "D" is pretty much at least as good as expected; RB's look really good; O-line looks "improved"; Ash looks "improved" (yeah, but a girl who's a 4.5 is an "improvement" over a 3.0). Scary part of this same article dealt with receivers:"Marquise Goodwin looked as fast as ever, while Mike Davis has never looked better. Jaxon Shipley was Jaxon Shipley. DeSean Hales retained his title as the best spring receiver in program history with some eye-grabbing catches. The tight ends? Don't ask."Fingers crossed for 2012.

Good to read you online this morning, JRM.

Assistant controller due back from maternity leave Tuesday. :) !!!!! Still gonna have a bunch going on (whose idea was it that I'm supposed to actually earn my paycheck?), but at least I'll soon be able to get rid of the part of her job I had assigned to me.

Good news. My work load is increasing, and my visits to FN are becoming erratic.

QUOTE(#15):

I went to visit a friend this morning, 2 hours each way, tired, time for a nap. I go to take care of her every 2 to 3 months, take her some paperbacks my Wife saves for her, just sit and talk for awhile, she is past 80, known her for a long time, her husband passed just over a year ago, he was a friend of mine, so got to take care of his lady for him, my job. See--I work too.

I understand. That's why I'm living where I am. Taking care of my dad and mother-in-law. Thankful to have the work though and glad I'm healthy enough to do it.
