... And now L.A. believes it can win a title

08:17 AM ET 03.05 | Sunday was a bit of a bizarro day at Staples Center, where the Lakers topped the Heat thanks to Metta World Peace scoring 17, Andrew Goudelock outscoring LeBron James in the second quarter, and Pau Gasol playing tough guy. ... "I was just a little tired of the elbows and pushing around a little bit," Gasol said. "I saw that he elbowed a little bit, or shoved, [Troy Murphy]. At one point, you have to say, 'It's enough.'" That's the explanation for why the Lakers are where they are right now, back in the upper echelon of the Western Conference, winners of five of their past six games, back to the mindset they're accustomed to having in Lakerland. "The light finally went off that we believe we can win it," Derek Fisher said.

Yes but my biggest revelation of the game is that Dwayne Wade is a dirty dirty player. I think because he's undersized for a shooting guard refs have never paid attention to his foul plays off the ball... he's always putting his hands and head on people's faces trying to hurt them. If you watched the game y'll notice he's always hitting whoever gets close to him. I'm glad he fouled out lastnight. The refs and league office need to keep a close eye on him moving forward and suspend him if he keeps playing that way.

As constructed, with kobe and that big front line, they can competeBut they still need a pg upgrade, cause miamis pg are not in the class ofPaul, parker,rw, etc

I don't think they need a scoring point guard as Kobe handles the ball a lot. All they need is someone a good perimeter defender and I think Barnes is up to that task. Not having him for the playoffs really hurt them last year. I like their chances in the playoffs as they are constructed at the moment. I think Kobe has mastered the fine line of knowing when to take over and when to pound the ball into the bigs. So long as he keeps perfecting that art Lakers will be fine... good job lastnight Lakers!

He's becoming more of a punk! I think it's got to be frustration. He expected to win it all last year and now he's trying to be the schoolyard bully! Shame!

Maybe their coach gives incentives to players for injuring the opposing team

Anybody has a chance to win.... it's wide open this season...

Well lots and lots of players have tried for decades to win but the ring always eluded them. Barkley, Ewing and Lebron James are a few names that come to mind. But they didn't go out there going after people's necks when they are in the air, slapping faces or elbowing and shoving other players when they are off their feet... league office needs to review that game and send him a strong warning so he doesn't hurt someone badly. It's okay to be a bully in your own mind but when you overdo it somethings gotta give. I can only hope the league office doesn't turn a blind eye his dirty game...

I won't be shocked if it's a team policy to do those dirty plays that refs don't usually see. If you look at last year's series against Boston, Wade basically tangled with Rondo's arm and twisted it. I was shocked he wasn't suspended...

This is why we can categorize this with unicorn sightings...if the Lakers winning against the Heat is contingent upon MWP scoring actual points, then we can write them off now. In a 7 game series I doubt they could even beat the Thunder or Mavs anyway
