08:53 AM ET 03.05 | The repercussions of Bounty Gate are likely only beginning. The NFL is considering severe, sweeping disciplinary measures in the New Orleans Saints' bounty case that could include lengthy suspensions of Coach Sean Payton, General Manager Mickey Loomis, former defensive coordinator Gregg Williams and player leaders of the scheme, a person familiar with the deliberations said Sunday. The person, speaking on the condition of anonymity because NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has not made final decisions on penalties, said some of the sanctions could be "unprecedented." ... The suspensions under consideration are a half-season or longer in some cases, the person said.

I guess so...
Goodell HAS to bring the hammer down on this one. With the league being sued by former players over concussions... he has no choice.
Rams better start looking for another DC.

Goodell will prohibit the entire city of New Orleans from saying "Who dat?" during the 2012-2013 regular season.

Loss of first draft pick the next year, plus 5 game suspension without pay for the player. subsequest offenses double the punishment.

I wonder how severe Goodell will be with Loomis and Peyton?
THE BISHOP!

Gonna be at least that.
Payton might be watching from his home for the first half of the season.
Williams - at least a season and maybe 2.
This is going to be seriously addressed.

As a Redskins fan I wanna know what u gonna do to us. None of the players from '06 are still even there other than Fletcher. Hell we've had 2 head coaches since Williams was there. U gonna suspend Shanahan & Haslett for Williams? This is about to be some cow manure...

They will punish the Redskins by NOT suspending any of their players or coaches.

I'll qualify that...you will need to keep Grossman as your penalty.

Other than maybe getting into Danny's pocket (unlikely)... I don't see this going beyond the Saints and Williams' current employer.

The Saints do not have a first round pick this year. They traded it to New England.

It's a shame. All that pithy commentary wasted.

Maybe they did that because New England was aware of the bounty program and they wanted to buy their silence.
