Eli takes Saints to task

08:07 AM ET 03.06 | No doubt, Eli Manning is less a fan of the Saints than he once was. [Manning, reacting to Bounty-gate,] sounds sickened by the entire sordid situation. ... Thus far, no prominent NFL players have come out and ripped into the Saints, until now. Manning, who grew up in New Orelans a big Saints fan, said he has been in meeting rooms and heard how Tom Coughlin instructs the Giants defense to get after opposing quarterbacks. "I'm kind of sitting there and I say 'I know the opposing teams are saying the same thing about me,'" said Manning. "But when you start talking about injuring a guy and carting him off and trying to end his season or career, that's not what this game is about."

This is the best statement by a player so far: "that's not what the game is about."

As you can see from my avatar, I'm not a Giants fan, but I'm going to give two thumbs up to Eli for standing up and saying this.

Apparently, "Piling on" is no longer a penalty.
And so it begins...

There's no fine line between making a QB uncomfortable in the pocket and carting him off the field.

(though a great line tends to reduce either situation)

As long as players stay silent on this it will seem like they accept the existence of bounties. They should not. There's no place for that crap. Good to see Eli take a league leadership role by standing up and calling out the thugs.

The line seems to be that one can do it, but one can not ever indicate the intent, and one can not receive remuneration outside the CBA.

Here is the funny part about this- I don't hear him "ripping" anyone in these quotes he is just saying what all OFFENSIVE players say and think! You don't hear and won't hear a WORD from anyone on a defensive side of the ball because as Tom Jackson said he was trying to hurt someone EVERYTIME he hit them!

I should give him more respect but as long as he looks like Gomer Pyle in pads, it's hard to do.

There's a legal difference between trying to "hurt someone" (a figure of speech) and "conspiring to hurt someone." (a criminal offense)
Just saying. Let's see what Louisiana has to say.

Good one. You got it right. Now it is all on Goodell, he decides if this is serious or just PR by his office.

Wonder how many former players currently suing the league over concussions played for Williams?
