08:16 AM ET 03.06 | Omar Vizquel, who hit the majors less than two weeks before Adeiny Hechavarria was born in 1989, sees a bright future for the prospect. [Said Vizquel:] "I have a big responsibility to show him and others that, at this age, I can still move and play the game. Maybe this guy can do it too, play for 20 years." ... The Jays beat the New York Yankees and others to the talented Cuban, signing him in 2010 to a four-year contract worth $10-million (U.S.). Two months before he signed, George King of The New York Post wrote of Hechavarria: "Do the Yankees have their sights set on Derek Jeter's eventual replacement, who could be a future centre fielder who nudges Curtis Granderson to left?"

Omar's gonna do wonders for this kid's development.

That's probably why the Jays are keeping him around to help with this kids transition.

It's a savvy move, one of many Toronto's management has done in the past couple of years. A division with New York, Boston, Tampa Bay and Toronto hardly seems fair. I hope they continue to make good decisions and really give the Yanks and Sox fits this year -- their fans deserve it.

Maybe it's early, but I am not getting it. This guy is supposed to be Jeter's replacement, but plays for the Jays and was speculated by some writer saying he could replace Curtis Granderson in CF. Wait...sorry, "centre field".

You should do a TD about that. I'm sure it will go over as well as your last one where Boston would trade "AD" to the Rangers for an unproven Japanese pitcher.

A Cuban birth certificate does not say 1989, it says circa 1989.
These writers are so sloppy. Jeesh.

I would too, but only if it comes with a free gift. Like luggage or something.

I have a feeling we'll be lucky to get a luggage tag with this one though.
