Odds plummet on seeing Crawford in opener

08:19 AM ET 03.06 | Bobby Valentine said Carl Crawford would "be ready when he's ready," which, after offseason surgery, didn't seem likely in time for Opening Day. [Monday], those odds plummeted to near zero. Crawford will be prohibited to throw and hit for up to a week after an examination yesterday by Dr. Donald Sheridan -- the same doctor who operated on the left fielder's wrist Jan. 17 -- revealed inflammation. [Said Valentine:] "It's probably not in his best interest at this time to overdo it. Overdo it to him is just regular. But it's a little more workload than his wrist probably needs at any time, too. The Opening Day thing is probably not realistic. It might be. But probably not."

Looks like CC will be off to another slow start in a Boston uniform. I'm sure the ChokeSox fans will be perfectly understanding.

Actually, Tampa Bay took advantage of Boston's choke job last year.

Exhibit A - Ellsbury's near-MVP season of 2011.
Or why a "fan" should wait until a player fully heals from an injury and surgery before rendering an opinion

Exhibit B - Bobby V
Or how someone's enigmatic personality can get under an opponent's skin and drive them to drinking. (See also Papelbon, Jonathan) Or how some just sit back and smile at it all. :-P

Exhibit C - Dice K
Or why throwing monster money and an extended contract at a Japanese League pitching import is risky at best. (See also Third-Year Wall)

I doubt that he'll ever be able to live up to the weight of his contract.
