08:41 AM ET 03.07 | John Calipari has been named college coach of the year by all sorts of organizations, he's won conference titles, recruited and coached first-round NBA talent, recorded 20- and 30-win seasons galore, and has his own website -- but what he doesn't have is great NBA success on his resume. While [Calipari] has experienced remarkable success at the University of Kentucky, it's hardly a secret he would leave the Wildcats for an NBA coaching position. The latest rumor making the rounds is that Calipari is in the crosshairs of New Jersey management. Calipari coached the Nets from 1996 until 1999.

Get real Nets...Putting syrup on sh!!t doesn't make it pancake... your players suck so it don't matter who coaches them.

College coaches should stay where they are. Besides Calipari doesn't know how develop players beyond 1 year.

Yet amazingly his super talented teams flop in the tournament year in and year out...Memphis with D.Rose is the one exception, it took a ridiculous shot by Mario Chalmers to send that one to OT

Does Dwight Howard want him as his coach? That's all that matters.

No... he wants Rick Carlisle.

Stay Away From The NBA, Bro.

Wait a minute - he has already coached the Nets once before?!?

March 7, 2012  09:46 AM ET

This has to be a mistake right??? They meant the Knicks I'll wager ;)

LMAO, is this a joke? Calipari is a good COLLEGE coach because he can shadily out-recruit just about every other team out there.....of course your going to have a good team with a roster full of Mcdonald AA's. News Flash John, everyone is good in the NBA, you can't just out-recruit other teams/coaches and win like he does in college.......

Cough Cough Nick Saban......

Shady recruiter.....yes.....

GOOD coach......not so much.....

Nets targetting Calapari? Don't they remember that they have already tried that ride and it crashed and burned?

March 7, 2012  11:49 AM ET

He would probably lose money going to the Nets

March 7, 2012  11:53 AM ET

Calipari have tried the pros before and it did not work, what makes you think it will work now? Calipari have no control in the pros, he can't recruit the players he want and have to coach what is given to him; and that's something he's not good at (coaching without an advantage).

So what happens to Avery Johnson? You need a nucleus to win in the pros and the Nets don't have that.

Yep... And it ended very poorly...

Of course the writer from the Journal Times was probably in grade school in '96 - so can't speak to the specifics (like going 3 - 17 before being fired in 98 - 99)...
