Rams' Poppinga lashes out at Williams

08:40 AM ET 03.09 | Gregg Williams isn't being welcomed with open arms by linebacker Brady Poppinga, both, for now, employed by the Rams. This didn't keep Poppinga from ripping Williams for orchestrating a bounty program while with the New Orleans Saints. Poppinga feels that strongly about a system the seven-year NFL veteran described with such terms as "degrading," "animalistic" and "repulsive" during a Thursday interview with FOXSports.com. "I just can't sit there and be silent," Poppinga said. "I look at this as an opportunity to share with the public that we, as football players, are not barbaric and out to try and destroy everything in our path. Football is my profession and I take it seriously. It's an art form."

But more importantly, what does Peyton Manning think about all this?

"It's an art form."
Easy now. Still, it's good to see some speak out against the practice, albeit just to distance themselves from it and deny the practice when their own names get dragged through the mud as many surely will.

I like it. Football is a craft that requires skill and intelligence as well as raw power. He has pride in his work. He gets it.

Poppinga has convictions. And some guaranteed money in his contract?

Those who play the game for the "love" of the game surely will find bounties unnecessary and "repulsive", we need to put the BS filters on high to see who is sincere and who is making statements just to appear to take the high road...

If there is ANY consensus among the Rams players in support of Poppinga's position, how can the Rams even consider keeping this guy? But, then again, Goodell may make it a moot point if he suspends Williams for this season....................

As an 'art form' some players are like picasso but a lot need to go the paint by numbers route.

"It's an art form." Was he drunk when he said this? Does he even know what an "art form" is?

Anyone who has played the game of football on any level can fully appreciate his comments here regarding football being an "art form". There is a heck of a lot of technique, re-fining technique, mental preparation, and strategizing that goes into what these guys do that we simply never see as a mere observer and it's easy to lose sight of as it's not what excites or entertains. Football is absolutely an art form on many levels.

"Art form": "An activity or a piece of artistic work that can be regarded as a medium of artistic expression." You telling me that football players take the field intending to express themselves artistically? Football is NOT an "art form" and any attempt to apply that term to football isn't grounded in what the term actually means. Poppinga doesn't know what he's talking about.

A very good read. It's a roadmap to success in anything, not just war.

I disagree. Art is, generally, creative. Football is a game and is most often destructive in nature. There is definitely skill and technique and it can be more accurately called a craft. But art form? Not so much.
