09:17 AM ET 03.11 | While the Cubs are considered the leader in the Jorge Soler derby -- executives with multiple teams are saying they have agreed to a $27-million deal with the 19-year-old center fielder -- they do not have a deal in place. It still may be weeks before Soler is cleared to sign and a mystery team could slip in at the end, as the A's did with Yoenis Cespedes. The White Sox, Yankees and Nationals are among those known to be involved.

if the cubs are wise enough, then they will make the right move towards this CF, the cubs have to understand the meaning of signing this cuban to a long term deal, after all the cubs have nothing to lose but in return they can make the team stronger in their outfield!!!

should the cubs lose this oportunity on signing this player? unless they do not acknowledge the talent of this player, or perhaps the cubs offer would be too small? time will tell!!

March 11, 2012  09:49 AM ET

this player would be the perfect match for the cubies, its young and the cubs are going young in their franchise, epstein its rebuilding this team on every spot in their roster, and the farm system its the ## one that it has to be revamped in every area!!

the only question here its, does the cubs would sign soler to a long term deal? or it could be to a single year contract because they don't have any evidence on soler higher skills or talent?? what could be the right choice??

March 11, 2012  09:58 AM ET

could the mariners and cubs would be able to follow the rays steps??? if so who should be the first one to reach their goal as being able to develope a tough farm system???

March 11, 2012  10:04 AM ET

on any club, who goes young shouldn't be that difficult, the only thing that the franchise needs its, a very smart and wise GM with a good sharp manager, who could make the right moves in the lineup, remember the rays small payroll hasn't stop them from competing against the top best teams in their own division and against any other team!!

invest to a long term, after all every investment has a risk either way for better or worse, the GM has to take a chance and with a little luck in his side the player could be a lucky charm!!!

It could take the length of Theo's contract at the least to get the job done.

Could also back fire on them...signing young talent has always been risky...(see Yankees Brien Taylor)...but hey you have to start somewhere...I just think its a lot of money for an unproven player..

I absolutely love love love what theo has started to do in Chicago. It may be a slow process but I really do believe for the first time that the cubs can get to where they want to go in the near future
