Can Cespedes save the A's?

08:11 AM ET 03.12 | Yoenis Cespedes is no longer the stuff of legend, even if the legend grew a little bit over the weekend. [Cespedes] stepped from the shadows Saturday and turned into a living, breathing, home-run-hitting major leaguer. Next question: Can he be a season saver, too? "It was pretty electric," manager Bob Melvin said of Cespedes' performance. "We had guys that didn't have to be here watching it." ... [The] beauty of Cespedes' presence on the A's is that he can accomplish things that nobody else on the roster can do, and he showed that right away. And you sure didn't hear the A's minimizing the significance of it. They wanted it to feel large. They needed it to be accompanied by a drum roll and Cactus League intrigue.

Who's going to protect Cespedes in the A's lineup? Manny?

"Saving the A's?" No money. Small, lackadasical fan base. Same division as Texas and California. No chance to move. One player -- not Babe Ruth or Walter Johnson -- can "save" a franchise.

New Blood that's what Baseball needs!!! Oakland A's or San Jose B's that is da Question!!

No, but when your team had the lowest attendance totals in all of MLB in 2011, maybe he can get someone to come and watch them lose.

On the button...... If he tears it up early - then he will start leading the league in walks......

With his troubles handling a good breaking ball, he might lead the league in K's.

Is that what we're doing now? Going ga ga over spring training performance? How stupid.
This guy will probably be half way decent once the regular season starts but he's no franchise saver. The money ball man will make sure that the franchise is luke warm like always.

What's it been?... 3-4 weeks now?...and I'm still being distracted by Kate's funbags.

Answer is...No.

Unfortunately... That's what we've come to... day by day... minute by minute...

What you wrote yesterday, doesn't matter today...

Like yesterday's TNR about the Yankees getting jobbed on the Pineda - cause he's not in Mid-Season form by March 11.

If a guy blows up, he's done for the year and the team should start looking at the waiver wire.

And if he does well (remember Jeremy Lin? ) - he's the next coming...

lin actually is as advertised. but your point, while not new, is true. this is also how sports contracts are written, by and large.

Cespedes wouldn't safe the season, but he could help this team to play a more and better decent games in the regular season, from manny ramirez, the team shouldn't and wouldn't expect much at all if little perhaps but not much at all would be the right call,

Not for the first 50 games anyways.

The only person who can save the A's is Bud Selig, but letting the team move from the **** that is Oakland.
