Podsednik pushing to take Pierre's job

08:12 AM ET 03.12 | It may be getting late early for Juan Pierre, who reportedly entered camp with a strong chance to land a bench spot. Right now, Scott Podsednik looks better all the way around, at least as far as offense is concerned. He seems to be running better and swinging a faster bat. ... [For] a guy coming off a season in which he was thrown out on 17 of his 44 stolen base attempts and who did not receive any guaranteed offers this offseason, it's fair to wonder how much he has left. Manuel likes his personality a lot. And if he can give the Phillies a guy who can come off the bench and lay down a bunt and perhaps steal a base as a pinch-runner, then he has some value. Problem is, it isn't clear if he can still do those things.

Battle of the lightweights.

Pods has talent. He's still fast, he still plays a nice outfield, he's still a consistent slap-hitter. He'd be a good addition to most benches.

Pierre sucks ... if he plays this year, he should give back money to the teams he has shortchanged, with his crappy play since '04.

QUOTE(#4):

Both guys are going to be platoon guys if they make the team and they both still have some wheels to help on the basepaths to help add speed to the aging Phillies team........

I don't see both guys making the roster... The Phils already have 4 guys making the roster in the OF (Pence, Victorino, Nix, Mayberry) and they've got some younger blood on the horizon... I can't see them keeping 2 veteran OFs for the bench on an already aging roster...

They definitely won't be keeping both guys with Brown starting the year in Triple A. Depending on how Mayberry plays I think Brown becomes trade bait this year, so he'll get at least some time up to try and showcase

ZZZZZzzzzzz......Snore. Whoops? Did someone really need this? I suppose for the hard-core Phillie fan, or Fantasy Baseball guy.

whoever its more agressive and have plenty patience at the plate, that could be the right player to get to play more games, what's going to be?????

I'd take Posednik hands down. He's a better all-around player.
