08:10 AM ET 03.13 | This spring has left Chipper Jones facing a sobering truth -- his age -- all over again. [On Monday,] the third baseman confided his most difficult spring training has him wondering how much more he can take. "I've said it a million times, it's [heck] getting old," said Jones. ... His balky right knee is hurting even more than he thought it would. He went 0-for-3 on Monday and is 0-for-8 with three walks in four games this spring, having missed five games with leg soreness after playing the Grapefruit League opener. "Tomorrow might be my last day," he said "I don't know. I don't really focus on it that much. The body is starting to tell me every morning when I wake up that it's getting close."

it's tough to recover from a knee injury anyway, but more so when you're getting older.
Chipper, hang 'em up man...you've had a great career. this team is too shaky to have you riding the DL half the season. let Wren negotiate a buyout with you so he can pursue a LF and another utility IF (something he should have done in the offseason anyway).

A buyout? Why would he agree to a buyout? The Braves will owe him $13M for 2012, if he plays or gets released.

If he retires he doesn't get $13M

Why would he retire and give up that much money? Answer is , he wouldn't.

He's already made $155 million in player salary alone and while none of us know him from what I've read he seems like a down to earth, country guy who isn't flashy (is probably set up well financially). Gil Meche of the Royals retired before the start of the 2011 and gave up the $12 million he was due to make so it does happen.

But most guys still hang around to make sure they collect all that they have coming to them. Maybe Chipper is different, but I wouldn't bet on it.

In the past he has restructured and taken less money to play for the Braves. That is why ATLfan7 mentioned a buyout. He might not walk away for zero dollars but he might do it for $5-7M...that would give some cap relief for the Braves to make a trade for a LF'er and move Prado to third.

Classy guy...definitely won't miss him though after all the damage he did to my Metsies......and as far as the $$$ go ....here's a questions for everyone....If he's considered injured on the job and can't work anymore as a ballplayer, can he collect SSI disability???....Just kidding....

Its times like this that I understand the NFL's way of doing business. Can't play at a ML level - bye-bye.

Got to be frustrating for him not being able to string some trouble free years together here towards the end of his career. He's been one of the better guys to watch play over the years.
