08:14 AM ET 03.13 | In the wake of El Hombre and Tony La Russa departures, what's next for the Cardinals? What's left is an intriguing mix of World Series heroes and unknown quantities, sometimes in the very same uniforms. That's where we come to Chris Carpenter and Adam Wainwright, either the best one-two starting duo in the National League or a guy dealing with a bulging cervical disc and another guy coming off Tommy John surgery. There's a lot of in-between there. ... Wainwright is scheduled to pitch Tuesday against the New York Mets, his second spring start. The starts will get more meaningful as he goes, as his elbow inches up on 100 pitches, and as his co-ace rises or falls.

Perhaps Carpenter had his disc start bulging while he tore off his jersey celebrating beating the Phillies in the Wild Card round.

If the answer to that question is YES..then the follow-up question is how does he get that stank out of a leisure suit?

Hawaiian-smelling Febreeze I'd imagine. Dagweed would know for sure.

Said this the other day...if these two guys have any issues ...Cards better have some pitching waiting in the wings ......

The Cards always seem to be in the thick of things in the NL Central.

Lohse and Westbrook ? If not for his insane $ per year,Lohse would've been traded.Waiting to see if one of his tatoos pulls a muscle this season. Westbrook? Was he even activated during the playoffs last season? A failed reclaimation project. StL - Carpenter +Wainwright= DOOM. Shelby Miller time is near.

the cards can't expect everything goes good right? there its time for good rotation, there its time for weak rotation, there its time to improviced, there its time to lay low, when you can't beat the enemy you should joy them, because even the best teams with a payroll of 200millions plus can't guarantee any championships, the cards shouldn't worry and just workout with whatever the franchise provides!!

the farm system will give the arms that the cards are in need for!!!

Remember this name: Shelby Miller. He is to the Cardinals what Clayton Kershaw was to the Dodgers four years ago.

Actually, I believe Westbrook was the winning pitcher in the epic World Series Game 6.
