08:04 AM ET 03.14 | Teams may be tiring of the Peyton chase, but the payoff for them remains a Hall of Fame quarterback. And while Peyton's financial expectations always have been regarded as a secondary matter about which there would not be much debate once he knows where he wants to play, we're told that money is a bigger factor than previously believed. [The] fact that the pool of potential suitors shrunk from 12 to two or three and then grew to six as of Monday could be interpreted as a sign that, once the financial offers started to come in from teams like the Broncos, Cardinals, and Dolphins, the numbers weren't where they needed to be -- so more teams needed to be brought to the party.

No. And here I thought he was going to choose a team based on which city had the best local organic yogurt that you couldn't get anywhere else.

Playing teams off each other to elevate his price? Very insightful analysis. Yawn.

How is it shocking that he should be thinking about his income? Thanks for the scoop.
In another story, water is wet and Rachel Ray is annoying yet most men would still say she is doable. Fran Dresher falls into that category too.

Redskins signed Garcon from Indy and Morgan from SF, and they're going after Eddie Royal, too. Overpaid for Garcon, but still making those FA WR moves I needed to see. Smart.

And I thought today's kids are impatient - teams are getting tired after just a week?
(I was surprised PM initially indicated just three teams - a not unusual practice when looking for a new house/apartment, a new hire, or a new something, is to look at the first three whatevers to establish a baseline, and then start comparing the subsequent whatevers to the baseline. )
Sorta sounds like an agent, or team front-office type or former player, is the source of 'we are told that...' (and not someone familiar with what PM is thinking)
Per article:
"...As a source with extensive experience negotiating NFL contracts pointed out Tuesday night (or was it Wednesday morning?), the fact that the pool of potential suitors shrunk from 12 to two or three and then grew to six as of Monday could be interpreted as a sign that, once the financial offers started to come in from teams like the Broncos, Cardinals, and Dolphins, the numbers weren???t where they needed to be..."

i guess PN coulda had a combine - invite interested teams to a facility, schedule 15 minute interviews (with teams only of his choosing), and make the teams take a Wonderlic equivalent for GMs and coaching staffs.

This has nothing to do with Manning wanting to play football and win a championship, it has to do with his agent trying to score the last big paycheck he can for his client and himself. Not getting that $28 million from the Colts has to have hurt. This has been a big flurry about nothing generated by the sports media calling Manning "The Greatest Free Agent of all Time". My guess is that he will go to Miami or Arizona, that's where old folks go to retire. Going to Tennessee would make the most sense financially, it would boost recruits to his alma mater and when he retires he could run for governor.
