08:18 AM ET 03.14 | The Phillies, even with a surplus of infielders in camp, are looking for more. According to multiple major league sources, the team is monitoring the trade market for infield depth. Phillies officials were on the lookout for infield help even before utility man Michael Martinez left Tuesday's game against Houston with a bruised right elbow, suffered when he was struck by a pickoff throw while leading off second. Martinez said he was OK and probably would only miss a day or two. Third baseman Pete Orr had a rough day against the Astros. Houston hitters smacked two hard-hit balls by him, but it appeared as if he could have made plays on both. He was not charged with any errors.

Henry Blanco did a stellar job for the Rangers for a couple of years -- even hit pretty well. He's available again. Good utility infielders -- in a day with 12 man pitching staff -- are an under-rated commodity!

Can't say that I blame them.
While Howard, Utley, Rollins and Polanco represent a talented infield, they're all on the wrong side of 30 (33.5 average) and have collectively averaged 135 games a season over the last three years.

Mets should go full rebuild and get something for him...And Ike Davis too...going to be at least a couple of years before the Wilpons will spend freely.

Why should the Mets give up Ike Davis? He's young and PART OF the rebuilding process! C'mon, we're not the Pirates!

There's no harm in always looking to get better, epsecially when your talent isn't getting youngers. That's the key to having great runs, and not just one or two good seasons.

That may have been a stretch, i like the kid, really, but i don't see a rebuild yet, and that means Ike may not make it to the time when they actually start. right now they are just cost cutting.

No harm in looking, but remember a few things. The Phils have a SS-2B that was considered the best player in their minor league system last year in Freddy Galvis. While not as polished offensively, he's probably J-Roll's equal defensively already. Why the Phils resigned Rollins for 3, possibly 4, years is beyond me. Polanco has a mutual option for next season, which I'll be surprised if the Phils pick up their end. However, Howard is an unmovable contract. The Phils will have to start getting younger soon. The outfield is fine, but the priority this year is to resign Hamels.

True that. The Mets are a bigger joke than the Pirates.

Since the Knicks don't seem to want his personnel advice, maybe 'melo could help with the Mets' issues.
