Garrard a fit with Jets?

08:01 AM ET 03.15 | Options to back up Mark Sanchez continue to dwindle. The Jets want a viable No. 2, but all they've done so far is set up a meeting with Drew Stanton (Lions), who has only 187 pass attempts on his NFL resume. ... Who else is out there? Here's an interesting name -- David Garrard, the former longtime starter of the Jaguars. Garrard, 34, missed last season after being unexpectedly cut and undergoing surgery to repair a herniated disc, but he's said to be recovering nicely and hopes to start scheduling workouts with teams by the end of the week, according to a source. Garrard, born in East Orange, N.J., would consider the Jets if they're interested, the source said. Otherwise, it's slim pickings.

Even with David Garrard, it's still slim pickings.
On the other hand, it's hard to find a backup that wouldn't threaten Sanchez's starting job too much. This might be the guy.

And I would consider going to Barnum & Bailey when they come to town.

Why? Are the Jets short on bad quarterbacks?

The Jets were crushed when Chad Henne signed with Jacksonville, I guess.

Garrard is a solid backup. He was good enough backing up Leftwich to get Leftwich run out of town.

Hey that's not fair! Leftwich can hold a clipboard with either hand when he plays 2 downs and breaks something.

Garrard was doing well with Jacksonville until he got diagnosed with Crohn's disease. I can see how that might mess with your game a bit. But he's still a capable backup.

If healthy he would seem to be perfect for the role.

They need someone who Holmes will agree to huddle up with. That is the deciding factor.

Oh no, they have the QB of the present and future in Sanchez. They've put all their soon to be broken eggs into one basket case.

BF is waiting for Goodell's decision on the Saints' bounty thing. He's hoping that Roger will take away the Saints' NFC Championship and have the 2009 Vikes and Colts replay the Superbowl.

Unexpectedly cut? I guess they didn't see how bad he was in the pre season last year. Plus the back injury didn't help his cause. He's a good serviceable QB. He hands off the ball pretty well, ask MJD.

The Texans have come up with a way to improve their quarterback situation without signing anyone at all.
