08:12 AM ET 03.15 | In one scenario, the Dodgers would have a very familiar face in the front office. Hedge-fund billionaire Steve Cohen emerged Wednesday as the strongest bidder to purchase the Los Angeles Dodgers, and plans to hire Tony La Russa to a key front-office position, according to two Major League Baseball officials familiar with the process but unauthorized to speak publicly. Cohen's bid of $1.6 billion includes at least half of that sum paid in cash, according to the officials. La Russa retired as a manager after leading the St. Louis Cardinals to the World Series title last fall. Cohen, the Capital Advisors founder, is worth $8.3 billion, according to Forbes magazine.

You know TLR has to be going crazy about now, not being at Spring Training.

Retirement was never long range goal of TLR, it was just away to get out of St.Louis

Is it good to have a lush in the front office?

BUT, LA is desperate for a baseball man. They need to turn it around as the Angels have gained huge market share during the McCourt debacle.

Good point, La Russa would/could help the Dodgers, they still have a great fan base.

Sorry bud... NBA still runs a pretty distant 3 to Baseball and Football in America. Unless you watch ESPN of course, which will probably convince you that there is no other sport in this country....
