Would NCAA players ever go on strike?

08:18 AM ET 03.15 | At one point, this nearly happened. Just before the opening games of the 1995 National Collegiate Athletic Association men's basketball tournament, players from schools including Wake Forest, the University of California at Los Angeles and the top-ranked University of Massachusetts would walk to center court. Sit down on the floor. Let the balls remain idle. In other words, they would go on strike. "Seventy-five percent of the [opening games] not being played," former Massachusetts guard Rigo Nunez later recalled. ... [The] time is right to finish what Nunez and his peers started. Because college sports as we know them won't change unless they're forced to. And the quickest, surest way to apply force is through an athlete strike.

This must be about college athletes being paid. **** and play ball!

WOW! What a concept! Chances the student athletes can co-ordinate their efforts seems extremely small, but man, if they were able to pull it off, the changes they could demand would alter college athletics dramatically!

This is the main reason that they should not approve any "legit" system of alowing an allowance.

The end would never be in sight.

If NCAA basketball players went on strike, would anyone notice if it happened before March?

Yeah, they'd all be kicked off the team and lose their scholarships and have to A) get a job, B) pray some overseas team picks them up, or C) pray some dinky school will pick them up.

Then the teams that lost their kids would pick up new ones within a week and life goes on. Good luck anyone doing this during the Tourney- they would basically screw themselves for life.

Could you imagine going back to your dorm room after striking and the school has your $25,000 tuition bill taped to your door with a sign, no play you pay!!
